To transition his speed mountaineering style to the Himalaya, Ueli Steck needed to evolve both his training and his gear. Traditional big mountain climbing apparel and equipment was too slow and cumbersome for the kind of fast, light and aggressive attempts he was planning. For his style to work, he needed a new kit.
